HKN Syria, Ltd. is a privately held, independent energy company with oil exploration and production operations in northeast Syria. The company is a joint venture between Dallas-based HKN Energy and Qatar-based UCC Holding.
HKN Syria began operating eight oil fields in Syria under a 25-year agreement with Damascus, marking the first major production-sharing deal between Syria's new government and an international oil company. HKN Syria operates the Suwaydiya, Rmeilan, Alyan, Karatchuk, Sazaba, Laylak, Hamzeh, and Oudeh fields, located within its concession in Al-Hasakah Governorate.
The concession spans approximately 1,189 km² and covers all reservoirs to all accessible depths across the fields. The fields share an Upper Cretaceous carbonate reservoir system, with the fractured "Massive" limestone as the principal producing horizon, and more than 2,100 wells have been mapped across the concession.
